| Music Mensa - The Musical Support Society of La Caņada UMC
Music Mensa supports all church musical endeavors through prayer, meditation, creative visualization and direct financial contribuations. A "mensa" is the flat stone forming the top of an altar. By supporting Music Mensa, we lift all things musical onto the altars of our hearts, minds and actions. Proceeds from Music Mensa purchase instruments, sound equipment and printed music. It will also fund concerts and provide instrumentalists and singers for our services and help us publicize our presentations. Music Mensa is open to anyone, and can be joined by contacting the Church office and requesting a Mensa registration form. |
| The Sanctuary Choir is our largest choral group and meets every Thursday evening from 7:30-9:30 pm during the choral season. Additionally, on performance Sundays there is a short rehearsal approximately an hour before the service. The Sanctuary Choir is open to all singers. Music reading skills are recommended but not required; if a singer feels uncomfortable about his or her reading skills, a good set of ears and memorization capabilities are helpful. Performance material for the Sanctuary Choir is drawn from a wide range of styles including but not limited to period masterworks, 20th century classical compositions, spirituals, and contemporary Christian songs. |
| The Acorn Singers is our children's choir. Participants in this choir need not have music reading skills, but again, good ears and memorization skills are always helpful. The Acorn Singers perform about four times a year with a few rehearsals prior to the performance date. |
| Instrumentalists are often utilized in choral presentations throughout the course of the year. Musicians should be proficient on their instrument and flexible enough in their schedules to attend one or two rehearsals. There are selected opportunities for paid performances. |
| Chorus A few times a year an opportunity arises for a vocal chorus performance. All are welcome, singers and non-singers alike, for these easy and lighthearted get-togethers. An example of these performances would be the Vacation Bible School Chorus. Rehearsals are few and on a "to be announced" basis. |
